The vast network of country lanes provides excellent cycling and opportunities for ornithologists are abundant: buzzards, kites and peregrine falcons are resident in the region. Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust is near Gloucester.

Barbel fishing in the River Teme is celebrated among anglers.

Hay-on-Wye ( bordering Wales ), renowned world-wide for its antiquarian and secondhand bookshops and annual Literary Festival in May, is a mere 40-minute's drive from the house.

The Herefordshire Black and White village trail starts at Leominster and takes you through such picturesque villages as Eardisland, Weobley and Pembridge.
